Work and careers in Italy
Who can work in Italy, where to look for jobs, when you need your degree recognised, and how to register as self-employed.
✓ Checked against the sources: October 2026⚠️ This isn't legal advice. Visa requirements change, so always check the official source or a lawyer.
First: are you allowed to work
EU citizens (including Israelis with an EU passport) can work in Italy without a visa. Without an EU passport you need a visa and residence permit that allow work, for example an employment visa or a self-employment visa. The Italian Foreign Ministry's visa portal has a short questionnaire that shows which visa fits you and what it requires.
Where to look
- SIISL: the Ministry of Labour's jobs platform. Upload your CV and apply, logging in with SPID or CIE.
- Regional job centres (Centri per l'impiego) and authorised employment agencies.
- EURES: the EU's job portal.
- Hebrew is an advantage: search LinkedIn for jobs with "Hebrew".
