Work and careers in Australia
Who can work in Australia, where to look for jobs, when you need your degree recognised, and how to register as self-employed.
✓ Checked against the sources: October 2026⚠️ This isn't legal advice. Visa requirements change, so always check the official source, a registered migration agent or a lawyer.
First: are you allowed to work
If you aren't an Australian citizen, you need a visa that allows work. An EU passport doesn't give you work rights in Australia. There are employer-sponsored visas, skilled visas and partner visas, all listed on the Department of Home Affairs site.
The Work and Holiday visa for young people
Israel is on the list for the Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), for ages 18 to 30 with an Israeli passport. It lets you work during a 12-month stay. There are education and English requirements, for example an English Bagrut at the 3-unit level.
